In many educational systems, as for instance in the German upper stage of high school, the pupils can select their lessons. Thus the class no longer really exists, but the individual student is the center of the timetable activity. By having the individual course choice, each student receives his or her own personal timetable.
If in your educational system only a few people use the elective subject choice option, then the student timetable is the correct tool for you. A simpler version of this is contained in the module course scheduling.
